I’ve been a master barber for over 25 years, started cutting hair at Robinson’s back in ’98. But the story goes back even further.

Around age 9, I was drawing on shoes, jeans, T-shirts, experimenting with wearable art before I even knew that’s what it was called. I’ve always been an emcee at heart too, and me and my producer, one of my best friends, Drupey Beats, put out one of the dopest underground songs in New Orleans history: A PlayStation Cost More Than A Choppa.

Then Katrina hit in 2005. I had to rebuild from nothing, moved to Houston, then back to Kenner about a year later.

In 2008 | moved to San Diego to be with my lady at the time.

We got married in 2010, and went on to have four kids, two girls and two boys. In 2017 l opened my own barbershop, Intrakit Styles.

Three years later, COVID hit, and I lost damn near everything I loved. My marriage, my family, the shop, my clients. I started driving rideshare full-time, sleeping in my minivan for close to two years. The money was okay, but it wasn’t something that let my kids be there with me. Not seeing them on a regular basis broke me in more ways than money ever could.

I had to rebuild all over again, same as I did after Katrina.

It didn’t happen overnight, and for a while I didn’t know what the rebuild was even going to look like. Somewhere in that stretch, I learned how to use Midjourney to make visuals for my music videos. The more I researched, the better I got, and I was generating art that was genuinely dope. I printed some of it as canvas wall art, and people loved it. That’s when it clicked: I could take these images and turn them into wearable art. I knew I could make something out of it.

I never doubted Intrakit Mode would work. What worried me was how long it would take, because I wanted this to be the catalyst that let me reunite with my kids on a regular basis.

Intrakit Mode is proof that even from rock bottom, you can rebuild, reinvent, and rise up, and that vision changes lives.
